Did you know that the Western fence lizard has a blue belly. People may call it a blue belly.The Western fence lizard is also called a swift. A protein in the western fence lizards blood can kill the bacterium that kills Lyme disease. When disease carrying ticks feed on the lizards blood the ticks no longer have the disease. The males have blue strips on the sides of their belly.

The Western fence lizard.
is found in grasslands, sagebrush, woodland, coniferous forest, farmland, and occupies elevations from the sea level to 10,888 ft. The western fence lizard when it is younger eats ants and baby crickets. When it is an adult he will eat spiders, earth worms, larger crickets, and grass hoppers. When one sees you he will do push-ups to prove that he is a big lizard and not to be trifled with. The males have blue strips on the side of their belly. They have turquoise scales if you look closely. The size of the Western fence lizard is 5.7-8.9 cm. from snout-vent length and a total length of 21 cm.
